Covering a long period of time from the earliest days of Islamic art to the 20th century, the museum offers a wide range of works from the Umayyad, Abbasid, North Africa, Andalusian, Fatimian, Seljuk, Ayyubid, Ilkhanid, Mameluk, Timurid, Safavid, Turkic, Caucasian and Ottoman civilisations. Most of the collections at the Turkish and Islamic Arts Museum are rich enough to be made into separate museums. Housing a vast collection of precious works, the Manuscripts section of the museum is truly unique. The museum houses the world's most eminent collection of carpets.
