The chief guard tells Qadi Shurayk that the prince ordered men to be released from prison, to anger the judge. He decides to go to the caliph in Baghdad. The prince learns of this and runs after Shurayk and asks him to return to the city. The judge agrees, but stipulates that the men be imprisoned again and that he attend the judicial council, and he rules in the favour of the woman over the prince.
