The first episode tells the story of Qadi Suleiman ibn Al-Aswad. When the residents of the city complain to the Qadi about smoke coming from an oven, he suggests that they go to the scientist Abbas ibn Firnas. A man asks the Qadi to rule between him and Prince Abdallah Yusuf ibn Basil, claiming that the prince stole the inheritance of his father from him and his siblings, and the judge orders that Yusuf ibn Basil should be brought to him to be questioned.
